DEMINEX (Egypt) 1992 to present
Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Superintendent

Appointed by Derninex, the German oil company, to their Egyptian joint venture company the Suez Oil Company (Suco). Suco operates a number of offshore and onshore fields in the Gulf of Suez with an oil production of around 100,000 bpd ($1.SMillion per day).

E&I Superintendent (Sector Manager)
January 1994 to present

Promoted to manage the E&I maintenance department, in Suco's largest field, with a staff of 50 engineers & technicians and an annual budget of $1 million. Successfully worked to reduce downtime, reduce spare parts consumption and improve plant availability. This was achieved by revision of the Electrical and Instrument maintenance procedures, improved training, and implementation of a number of effective plant modifications. In 1995 the field was awarded the 7th level in the DNV loss control programme, a very high achievement. Frequently depulise for the Maintenance Manager who is responsible for all field maintenance activities.

On site equipment includes: Ruston Th 5000 turbines; Ajax, Solar, Suizer and Dresser compressors, GP-Elliott fire & gas system (Siemens S5 PLC); Reda ESP's; Foxboro Spec 200 control system; Motorola's Moscad Scada; GE-Fanuc Series 5 PLC's, GEC switchgear and Electrical generators.

The field comprises offshore locations (with 6 well head platforms) and a coastal desert wellhead location all connected to a GOSP and Gas plant (Gas Injection & LPG).

Senior Instrument and Control Engineer
December 1992 to December 1993

Developed the project handling capabilities of the instrument section within the Cairo engineering group and provided technical support to the field operations. Implemented a number of small on-site modifications to boost oil production in addition to running a number of field development projects using outside contractors.

 

DOW CHEMICAL CO. (The Netherlands) 1988 to 1992
Engineering Specialist (Instrumentation) & European Area Buyer

Assigned by Dow (a global leader m production of bulk & speciality chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals) to their European Engineering centre. Successfully undertook a number of multi- discipline assignments including:

December 1990 to December 1992

Promoted to deputy head of the E&I product group. This group was established to spearhead the effort in securing European wide long4erm '9partnership" agreements with major electrical and instrument suppliers as part of the supply chain management process. Negotiated agreements with the most senior managers of such suppliers as Fisher/Rosemount, Fischer & Porter, Foxboro, Yokogawa, ABB and AEG. Able to obtain unified and advantageous prices for Dow, throughout Europe, for E&I equipment. This task required me to develop an effective blend of technical expertise and commercial acumen. Also acted as the buyer for E&I equipment for in- house projects.

Lead instrument Engineer.
December 1988 to December 1990

Headed up a team of instrument engineers and designers and was responsible for the on-time delivery of the design and construction packages for a number of "fast track" European projects. These projects included an ABS plant in the Netherlands and a Propylene Oxide plant in Germany. Projects had to be completed on-time and within budget to meet market demand so that project costs could quickly be recovered. Dow makes extensive use of computer aided design.

 

KUWAIT OIL COMPANY (Kuwait/Korea) 1983 to 1988
Senior Instrument Engineer & Site Superintendent

Supervised all instrument and control aspects of the large scale projects of the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). This required preparation of the detailed contract specifications and ensuring the contractor did not deviate from these. Promoted to Site Superintendent heading KOC's multi- discipline team in Korea for construction and pre-commissioning of offshore production platforms. The construction and testing was completed on schedule with a minimum of change orders. Projects undertaken include:

 

SNCIFOSTER WHEELER (Canada/USA) 1980 to 1983
Senior Instrument Engineer

Lead engineer supervising the engineering and drafting activities on assigned projects, proposals and studies. This included, but was not limited to, manpower scheduling and control, the development of P&D, loop and location drawings, installation details and instrument selection. Assigned responsibility for all Exxon Instrumentation projects and developed this into a profitable business area for the company.

 

BROWN & ROOT (UK/Norway) 1977 to 1980
Instrument Engineer

Lead Engineer on various projects for North Sea production platforms requiring design-office support to modify or provide additional control systems. Implemented a number of modifications which improved the Instrumentation and Control systems of platforms in the initial phase of producing oil and gas. Worked on Mobil's Statfjiord A and Phillips' Ekofisk.

 

DANIEL INDUSTRIES (UK) 1975 to 1977
Systems Engineer

Successfully ran a number of hydrocarbon metering system projects from the initial discussions with the client on the proposed system operation, through the design stages, to the full factory acceptance tests. These computer controlled systems were used for custody transfer applications.

 

SCHLUMBERGER (Angola/Madagascar/Nigeria) 1973 to 1975
Field Service engineer

Performed the electronic logging surveys used to ascertain the production potential of a client's oil well. Completed Schiumberger's demanding training programmes and was promoted to Field Engineer. Clients included: Petrofina, Chevron and Shell.
