Location: West Germany, Syria.
Position: Instrument Engineer & Site Manager duties:

Initially employed at the company's head office in West Germany as part of a bid team to estimate the modifications to a gas treatment station for the Syrian government (Al-Furat). Later (Aug 91 to March 92) working on site at three locations in Syria as the Instrument engineer and site manager, responsible for the commissioning and modification of electrical and instrument systems associated with gas compression stations for the Syrian Petroleum company. Responsible to Sudrohrbau management for the technical and commercial success of this project.

Duties: Responsible for the design of instrument systems, calculations, specifications, loop sheets, P&ID~s, MTO, etc. Preparation of design and maintenance manuals, hazop studies for both pneumatic and electronic instrumentation involving process control and ESD systems necessary to upgrade two gas treatment plants. Modifications to offshore well clusters and hook-up's to production platforms. Both of the above projects were carried out on behalf of Shell Petroleum Development Company.

Co-ordination between instrument, piping, electrical and process groups. Scheduling work, checking drawings and supervision of two instrument draughtsmen

Duties: Management of CHB's own staff and sub contractors on various projects throughout the south of England. Responsible for the financial and technical success of these projects. These included management of well shut down systems for B.P. at Wytch farm on shore facilities, management of instrument engineering at Carless Exploration during a gas turbine co~generation project and design I construction of a skid mounted analyser for Exxon Chemicals Fawley.

Location: Awali, Bahrain, Middle East.
Position: Contracts Engineer (instrumentation)

Duties: Employed initially as an instrument designer assigned to the engineering department responsible for the preparation of drawings and specifications on a wide variety of projects including the updating programme of crude units, tank gauging and FCCU (catcracker); all these included computer control systems. Promoted in 1982 to instrument contracts engineer overseeing a variety of instrument projects during the modernisation phases of the Bahrain refinery including the light isomate production (LIP) project ESD systems on four refinery units and the installation of a Honeywell TDC 3000 control system.

Duties: Employed by an instrument contractor to manage projects within the local oil refinery during a modernisation phase.Converting pneumatic control systems to electronics and the installation of up to date control consoles and panels. These included a DEC computer control system, replacement of a temperature logger with an Oxford automation micro processor based control system and all the associated field work. The majority of these projects were carried out on live process units and involved 'hot' cut overs without loss of production.

Duties: Installation and commissioning of instrument systems on an oil rig platform, including updating drawings and producing 'as builts' up to final acceptance tests.

Duties: Compilation of data for a refinery instrument survey, including field work, report writing, drawing loop sheets and instrument logic diagrams for existing pneumatic control systems and recommending changes. Reports were compiled for the whole 250,00 bpd refinery and producing fields.
